Western Archives was founded in 2011 with the intention of providing high standards of security and protection while fulfilling a service based void in the industry. Our service-based model allows our clients to experience customer service that is somewhat uncommon within the document management industry.

Our well-trained staff use cutting-edge security to protect your records. Western Archives clients rest easy knowing that their business records are kept in a clean, secure and temperature monitored facility. The building is fully sprinklered, with cinderblock walls and 24 hour monitoring for a variety of environmental conditions and security/access.

We’ve got your shredding covered. However, it’s also crucial that efforts are made to stay safe online. One tool to take advantage of is a VPN (virtual private network), which has many online benefits. The following article will look at some of the times a VPN is most beneficial.

1. When using public WiFi

Using public WIFI is when you are most vulnerable. Many people will have access to the same network, and security may be very weak. This is even more the case if the network is not password protected.

Hackers and cybercriminals, in general, can quickly gain access to these types of networks. Therefore, you want to have as much security as possible. A VPN in this instance will provide a layer of protection from your information being stolen. Although someone may be able to see the amount of data you are using, the nature of the data will remain hidden.

2. To protect your security

Even when you are on your own company or home network, there can be security issues. For example, if you live in an apartment complex, others may gain access to your network, and a company network allows many people to gain access. As mentioned, a VPN hides the nature of your online content.

This means a hacker wouldn’t quickly know when you are conducting a banking transaction or on a video conference call. While many security tools are available, a VPN provides that extra peace of mind. Never assume you are 100% safe, even when using a network connection you trust.

3. For privacy reasons

Even if you feel your security is not at significant risk, there is still an argument around protecting your privacy. The reality is that without a VPN, every website can track your IP address and your rough location. Of course, that can be useful sometimes when finding directions from your area, for example.

However, you have the right to keep your location data private at other times. A VPN can do that for you because you can set it to a server different from your actual location. Privacy is important to many people, and this is perhaps the biggest reason to use a VPN regularly.

Technology is advancing every day but the more things progress, the more attention there should be on new threats. One tool that can be useful for nearly everyone is a VPN. You should consider using a VPN when using public WI-FI, to protect your security, and for privacy reasons.
